On September 3, 2010, Flight 6, N571UP, a Boeing 747-400F, crashed near the Dubai Silicon Oasis at approximately 7:45pm local time after declaring an emergency fifty minutes after takeoff. Both crew members were killed, the first such casualties in UPS' history. On 6 November 2010 Agence France-Presse released the Arabic Al-Qaeda statement that the crash was due to on-board explosion of an air package collected in Yemen, to date this has not been proven.

Базирующаяся в Йемене "Аль-Каеда на Аравийском полуострове" взяла на себя ответственность за отправку в США посылок со взрывчаткой, а также за подрыв самолета почтовой компании UPS недалеко от аэропорта Дубая в сентябре 2010 года. Об этом в пятницу сообщает Agence France-Presse со ссылкой на организацию SITE, которая занимается мониторингом экстремистских сайтов.
"Мы подорвали самолет, принадлежавший американской компании UPS, но так как вражеские СМИ не возложили ответственность за ту работу на нас, мы не заявляли об этой операции, пока не настало время ударить снова", - говорится в заявлении аравийской "Аль-Каеды".
"Мы задавались вопросом, почему враги не показали, что произошло с подорванным самолетом UPS? Потому, что они не были способны определить причину крушения, или же потому, что администрация Обамы хотела скрыть инцидент", - подчеркивается в сообщении террористов.
На исламистских форумах появились также призывы к дальнейшим терактам с помощью взрывоопасных посылок, причем не только на грузовых, но и на пассажирских самолетах, отмечает агентство.
Напомним, грузовой самолет UPS разбился недалеко от аэропорта Дубая вечером 3 сентября. Тогда о причинах крушения не сообщалось, также не было точной информации о количестве находившихся на борту людей, о типе воздушного судна и о точном месте его падения.
Посылки со взрывчаткой, которые предположительно должны были взорваться во время полета, были перехвачены 28 октября при проверке транзитных грузов компаний UPS и FedEx в аэропортах Дубая и Лондона. Информацию о бомбах предоставили спецслужбы Саудовской Аравии.
Спецслужбы возложили ответственность за организацию терактов именно на "Аль-Каеду на Аравийском полуострове". Президент США Барак Обама пообещал ликвидировать йеменскую ячейку террористической сети.

UPS Share price

UPS shares have rallied recently, maybe on the hail mary pass that I was out of my 3 month period for Constructive Dismissal, UPS however have failed to follow the ACAS Code of Conduct for grievances, which should nullify their claim.

Grievance 1 - No right of appeal offered

Grievance 2 - Never investigated

Grievance 3 - No meeting held & No right of appeal offered. Not conducted in a timely fashion

Grievances of former employees:

Because of the need to follow procedure, if a former employee has an outstanding grievance after they have left the job they should still try and follow the appropriate steps so as to avoid being penalised at any subsequent tribunal. An example of when this would be appropriate is where there is a complaint of constructive dismissal i.e. where an employee resigns because of the way they are treated by an employer.

TESCO had more than £4.3BILLION wiped from its share price today after its first profit warning for at least 20 YEARS.

Britain's dominant supermarket chain revealed UK sales fell by 2.3 per cent over Christmas — admitting it was "disappointing".

And analysts slashed forecasts for this year's profits as Tesco vowed to spend a fortune winning shoppers back.

Shares in Tesco crashed 14 per cent and fears of a bloodbath took SAINSBURY'S and MORRISONS down 7 per cent.

Clive Black, analyst at SHORE CAPITAL, told The Sun: "What's happened today is unheard of. It's the first profit warning from them in at least 20 years."

Group sales at Tesco rose 5.2 per cent in the six weeks to January 7 thanks to bumper growth in Asia and a rise in the rest of Europe.

But Tesco chief Phil Clarke said: "In a challenging economic environment, we made good progress internationally but despite record sales, we are disappointing with our seasonal trading performance in the UK."

Analysts claim Tesco has "gone stale" in the UK as it invests a fortune in its overseas empire.

Famed for innovations such as One in Front — opening more tills to reduce store queues — Tesco's rivals have all launched more appealing initiatives in recent years.

Tesco vowed to slash £500million from prices in its Big Price Drop last year. But this has failed to trigger a boost in sales.

The incredible warning came as Argos-owner HOME RETAIL revealed its own Christmas shocker, with sales at Argos down almost 9 per cent.

Olympics tomorrow?

If the Olympics can be held tomorrow............., a statement made a few months ago. Went to my sisters in St Albans a couple of weeks ago, travelled into London on the train, no probelme, thought we'd take the kids to see the Olympic Site. The tube was closed. Took a circuitous route to get there, the viewing point Yvette had visited was closed, the viewing tower thing was closed, so had to go into the official Olympic department shop, into the official Olypmic store to look through the windows there.
Cranes, HiViz jackets & hard hats are not the sign of a completed site. There was a good send up on the News Quiz (see BBC Radio 4 podcasts)
The venues look pretty good, but it's England, anyone forsee disaster?

Bank rate scandal highlights culture issues

More legislation will not solve the problems of “culture and leadership” in the banking sector that have been exposed by the rate fixing scandal, the new chief executive of the CIPD Peter Cheese has said.

Barclays' chairman Marcus Agius and chief executive Bob Diamond have both announced their resignations this week after the bank was fined £290 million for attempts to manipulate the Libor inter-bank lending rate.

Attempts by traders to fix this rate were a serious breach of trust, as it is used by all banks to help set lending rates for mortgage customers, potentially resulting in higher costs for the public.

“The obvious reaction has been to talk of regulation and legislation, prosecutions, and even compensation for those adversely impacted,” Cheese said. “And while there are some gaps to be closed, the real issue that needs to be understood and addressed is that of culture and leadership. No amount of regulation will stop people from behaving unethically if they either don’t see it as that, believe they can get away with it, and particularly where the rewards outweigh the perceived risks.

“Culture is driven not just by what is said, but more importantly how senior people act, and what the organisation allows to become tolerated behaviour.”He said that HR has “a huge role” in both having the courage to confront cultural failures and in enabling the development of better cultures and behaviours through performance measurement and reward and learning and training programmes.

Tracey McDermott, acting head of enforcement at the Financial Services Authority (FSA), said that Barclays’ traders were open in their attempts to manipulate the Libor rate and that this misconduct is some of the most serious the FSA has ever seen. The bank has started a “root and branch review” of its work practices.

Other banks have been implicated in the rate fixing, with RBS sacking traders suspected of involvement and more household name banks under investigation.

The government has started a review into how lending rates between banks work, while the Serious Fraud Office is considering whether to bring criminal charges against bankers.

Here we go Guy, my cunning plan to make Manning huge in the United Arab Emirates and in particular Dubai. There will be no mention of UPS bomb plots, airplane crashes or any terrorist activities. Described as samplers, there is 90 minutes of music for you to download, it must be a boring job, reading all this crap.

So, first visit to the Met, Bury last night. Very accessible from enemy territory (Yorkshire, though the natives did put up a bombbardment of rain as I encroached into red rose country)) and was able to park about 150 yards from the gig. Nice little bar as I went in, most of the beers were off, looked round as I ordered, to see Matt Stevens slumped over his empty glass. Immediately revived by a refill, we had a good chat over the roses on the table. Who'd a thought you could just walk into a bar and talk to the turn. Hope I planted a couple of decent ideas last night. (Matt they are genuine) thanks for your time and the gig, another splendid performance, and no broken string, though I did forget to request the metal medly. As Matt went to prepare, went into the hall, to immediately see Guy flogging his wares. Jumping straight in, purchased a couple of CD's as I introduced myself to Guy, again, chance to talk to the turn. It's weird for an old fogey like me.
Nice little venue, similar size to the Wesley Centre but a bit more....gig-ly rather than the school gym feeling of the Wesley Centre. After the roses in the bar, candles on the tables at the front of the hall. As you will see, another step & I'd have been on stage.
Sound was very good, though there was some buzzing at times, or was that just my ears.
Recognised a few of the tracks from the free downloads and from the previous gig.
There are so many styles of music in there from progressive folk rock, floyd, focus, Jethro Tull, oldfield,Gospel & Gregorian chanting to name a few.
Surprised I haven't got into Manning earlier through RH's imput, must have ended up on a things to do list. The music is superb, as were the 2 performances. Delve in and have a listen, it's free.
Nearly missed out - Matt was the usual one man Californian Guitar trio, excellent entertainment again.
