Not looked at Glassdoor for a while

This could've been me, but a

I have been working at UPS full-time (more than 10 years)
Pros
Money will not be a major concern if you decide to work for this company. Stock options are ok (FT Management and above) and the stability of not worrying about layoffs are great pro's with any company.
Cons
Did you ever hear the old saying, "money can't buy happiness?" Well, it's true! They will pay you at a competitive wage rate for the job "description", but will ask for MUCH MUCH more from you physically and mentally. Example: They will require you (at management level and above) to MEMORIZE numerous pages of what they call "Safety Material" then recall at any moment. If you have a character out of place or not memorized EXACTLY how it was written, your job and livelihood will be threatened. Over the years they have taken more and more from the management side (Removing spouses from benefits, raising costs of benefits, requiring a $150/month fee for smokers.. just to name a few) while the union side experiences none of these changes. Ever heard of a vacation? Sure, but guess what, blackout dates from Nov through Dec. Restricted to 2 weeks in the summer (Oh, they call summer May 1st - September 15), and you can't take a vacation when someone else is off. Lastly, the conditions are horrible. When it's 13 degrees outside, it's 14 degrees inside and maybe 30 degrees in the office. Have you ever tried to type up reports with frostbitten fingers? Again, ask any employee or management person working for them to verify... heck, they can even wear a thermostat or temp gauge. They are all told, "The building is set at 45 degrees". What's left out is that, sure it's 45 degrees....near the heater which is located 25ft in the air! The floor will be well below FREEZING!
Advice to Management
Realize what you are asking of ALL your employees. The production rates and outstanding goals being set is only being carried by the front line people moving the packages through the system. What you are asking in most cases is NOT HUMANLY possible. Instead you have employees (documented) passing out in your buildings, heart attacks on the floors, taking stress leaves of absences, FMLA etc. all to just to get a short term piece of mind. Don't take my word, have any of your management team take a TRULY ANONYMOUS survey (not one that asks ft or pt, white or black, what building do you work---- which is narrowed down to find the whistle blower). I guarantee you the survey will duplicate everything I've stated, and then some. Believe me, If the media or general public had any idea of what it REALLY LOOKS LIKE in your hubs and package centers (belts backing up, packages being crushed and stacked on top of each other, being walked on daily), they would think the FedEx guy throwing the TV over the fence was nothing. HINT to the public: Just peek through the fence on heavy days to get a glimpse.... until they realize and close the doors.
To Upper Mgmt: Please try to address these concerns as your front line employees are afraid to tell you the truth about the conditions. Otherwise, UPS will experience the bubble that the housing market experienced where year after year of increase on demand, people and equipment.....something will burst and fail. Good Luck!

First 30 days will be daily harassment and threats of being fired. ”

Current Employee - Part Time Package Handler in Doraville, GA
I have been working at UPS part-time (less than an year)
Pros
Tuition reimbursement within the first week. Has a union. Hires a ton of ex-convicts.
Cons
It's a culture designed to create a constant fear of being fired-at-will daily until you are eligible to join the union. Management deliberates disrespects new employees to test their commitment. Coworkers diminish each other's work in hopes to make themselves look better because of the fear of being fired.
Advice to Management
Positive reinforcement should be taught and encourage teamwork for the desired results.

Great Bennies...but it ends there ”

Former Employee - Maintenance
I worked at UPS full-time (more than 3 years)
Pros
The benefits are still very good, although they seem to get a little less good every year.
Cons
Management is apathetic and no one seems to care about the company, let alone employees. In fact, management actively provokes adversarial relations with the union. Working conditions are terrible. Picture 98 degrees, 95%k humidity and they don't even care if the water fountains work for the laborers. In addition, they give safety lip service but don't do anything to actually make the place safe. If you just want a pay check and don't care at all about other people or making a quality contribution to your company, then UPS is the perfect place for you. I kept hoping it would get better, but it did not.
Advice to Management
Stop paying lip service to safety and stop blaming an employee who does have an accident. Become proactive and fix things that are not right.
