Fellaini

This came up in a search for Marouane Fellaini. Looks more like Carlos Valderama to me

I did like this one though

Is Ryan Shawcross gay?

Whilst not trying to defend Marouane Fellaini, every  time that an offence by Fellaini was highlighted by the experts on MOTD, Shawcross had his hands all over him. Is it any wonder that Fellaini struck back? This continued in the game against Liverpool. He can't keep his hands off other men.

I rest my case

Now let's see who blinks

Wednesday 26 December 2012

Hello UPS

Morning Guys, straight in to read those new posts.
Bit of a sad job to be doing on Boxing Day
Your pre-alerts are obviously working.
Who do you report back to?
Straight to the top or do you have some one in between?

I haven't blinked yet, and don't intend to either.

There have been a few nervous anonymous comments, are  they blinking?

Shorthand DfT

For anyone interested, I've done the hard work for you, and I might just have sent an e-mail.
No that might count as being a threat, So I have sent an e-mail. There we go, no threat. Not that they have ever been threats.

Just to make it easier for Stephen and his department I've added labels for them as well. (Work in progress)

E-mail address number 3 for Stevie

Stephen Hammond MP

Hope you all had a good Christmas.
A special welcome to Singapore

Thanks for the e-mail address Dave but I already had an e-mail address of the MP for Wimbledon who has a website, should anyone else wish to contact him about safety on UK roads.

It was a dig at anonymous who thought it necessary to comment on not changing e-mail addresses but not commenting on my emails being blocked and hacked.

Suffice to say the  Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport has not seen fit to answer either of the emails that I sent to both his e-mail addresses. There's time yet, & if necessary, more e-mails :-)

UPS & Faceache

UPS accident

According to reports, a passenger bus traveling south bound on I-35 was hit by a UPS tractor trailer from behind.  The bus spun out of control and the UPS truck ended up in the north bound lane of the highway.  A second tractor trailer that was traveling north bound on the highway collided with the back of the UPS truck.

Was he tired, working through a break?

Woman hit by UPS truck dies

Posted: Nov. 8, 2011 | 5:32 p.m.LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

A 69-year-old woman died Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a UPS truck in the south valley, Las Vegas police said.
The crash occurred at 3:13 p.m. in the 2500 block of Swan Ridge Avenue, near Pebble Road and Eastern Avenue.
The name of the woman was not released. She was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Police initially said she was 50 but then later corrected her age and said she was a Henderson resident.
Police identified the driver of the UPS truck as David McCallum, 41, of Las Vegas.
Police spokesman Marcus Martin said late Tuesday afternoon that the crash occurred in a residential neighborhood and that it was too early to determine who was at fault. The Metropolitan Police Department's Fatal Detail was investigating. Police said the crash was the 60th vehicle-related fatality under the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police in 2011.
From the comments box;
  • Monday thru Friday UPS and FedEx fly down my street which is in a quiet, residential neighborhood. I dread the day when I hear brakes squeal and someone is hit. And, it's true they work on a time frame which encourages them to race through their route. That has to stop!
  • Green Dragon, you know nothing of me or what I stand for. You didn't need to turn this into some partisan, class-warfare issue or whatever you want to call it. Facts are facts and the fact is UPS does have strict time requirements of their drivers. They may have a good driving record overall and I commend the drivers themselves for that but non the less they are pushed to the limit. Its about safety to me and nothing else.
  • It is a fact that UPS gives each driver a specific time, depending on their route, to make their deliveries. No excuses. Stops Per On Road Hours means they have a time limit and they are held to it within minutes and sometimes seconds. Don't hold to that time and they are given a working suspension. Like most corporations like UPS, time is money. And pushing less people to do more, especially those using a heavy vehicle, is asking for a tragedy. Of either the worker or someone else. My heart goes out to the woman's family but also the driver who has to live with what happened.
  • It's a known fact that UPS and Fedex drivers have been cut in numbers, forcing them to make more deliveries in a given day. That's why they fly through neighborhoods. When UPS delivers to me, it takes less than 30 seconds. Grab the package, out the door, ring and drop, and on to the next one. The corporate attitude is do more with less. I'm not saying it's the drivers fault, as it appears the pedestrian just stepped out in front of him, but the workload could be a contributing factor.
  • UPS FLIES down my street and reading these other posts sounds like it's not just my street or one driver.

More from the same report

  • Even though  your supervisor may  know when  you really do take your  breaks outside the allotted times, he or she will never formally admit that to their boss. In a pinch, you will have only the Union to defend you against charges of stealing time.
  • Do not let anyone convince you to drive a vehicle that has a safety defect. Again, make a fuss; involve the Union.
  • And last, but not least, remember that no one is as responsible for you as you are.
But remember you'll be hung out to dry. More bull from the Unions

Unions admit employees work through their breaks

  • Stop working your lunch and breaks and you will have given yourself the largest raise you will ever receive.
  • Do not work your lunch and break periods. UPS does not need the extra money you take from your family. In Maine alone, it amounts to tens-of-thousands of dollars per year. How much are you paying?
  • Take out a calculator and see how much money you did not take home in one year by working your lunch and breaks, then, determine how much you paid in dues to the Union for that same period. If you paid the Union (who needs the money) the same amount of money you paid the Company (who does not need the money,) the Union could probably provide you with a business agent to be on-car or even in the unload and pre-load with you each day.
  • Compare the amount of money you give the Company by working your breaks with every other expenditure you have in your budget; next, try justifying what you are doing to yourself and your family.
  • If your workload is beyond your ability to complete without working your breaks, make a determination as to why; then tell your supervisor to correct the problem.
  • If they do not correct the problem, call the Union and tell them what needs to be done. The goal here is to establish a workload that allows you to include your lunch and breaks.

Of course it was all Union noise, they weren't really interested.
Of course it still goes on.

UPS Safety statement

More corporate bullshit

Safety on the Road

Let’s face it, driving can be a dangerous task. Our attention is often lured away from the road by our phone, children, and thoughts of dinner, any number of things.  Even if we’re focused on the road ahead, what about those drivers next to or behind us?  Unsafe drivers are everywhere. However, UPS drivers are trained to be safe, no matter what is happening around them.
UPS has been committed to the safety of its drivers and the public for decades and has developed industry-leading safety training programs and safety equipment.
How did our drivers get to be so safe? One reason for our outstanding record - UPS’s certified management trainers who train that massive group on an annual and periodic basis.
  • UPS tractor-trailer drivers receive 80 hours of classroom and on-the-road training before operating equipment.
  • Delivery drivers undergo an intensive six-day training program, including 20 hours of behind-the-wheel and classroom training, plus periodic training rides through their evaluation period. (6 day training programme, I think not, It's been cut & cut over the years from 2 weeks)
  • UPS drivers globally receive annual safety training rides and follow-up training in the event of an avoidable accident.(Wrong, supervisors on road delivering is more important than Safety rides, see previous posts)
  • UPS recognizes the achievements of safe drivers through the Circle of Honor and Safe Driving Hall of Fame programs, awarding drivers who have no avoidable accidents during the course of their work. (Normally feeder drivers who qualify)

History Lesson

What happened in UPS just over a year ago?

Nigel Harnell was sacked for failing to stay out until 22.00 to complete his deliveries.
Scott Fowler's words from Nigel's disciplinary.

This was later overturned but only after he had a new job, but was also ill-advised by the now silent union.

What has happened this year? Drivers have had more and more work loaded on them, and under the threat of dismissal have had to work longer and longer. Has this been happening solely at Dewsbury? No. It happens at Leeds and Manchester as well. It probably happens everywhere else but I haven't personally spoken to any of those drivers. It would be interesting to see the same reports that I was looking at towards the end of last year re Tacho's and breaks. Based on the conversations that I have had, rules will still be broken.

Note to VOSA & HSE

I did my best, but once somebody has been killed I don't want to be the one who says "told you"
But I'm sure you'd still have a happy Christmas. The UK the worst, oh no, that should be least best, just to soften the blow, district in UPS.......I can't think why.

Friday 14 December 2012

Hello America

Interesting that as soon as I post I get some American visitors.

Hello.....

Ahhhhh, but you're pretending to be in the UK.

Is Flag Counter right or is blogger right, is it a combination of the two?

Pull up a chair, grab a coffee and a biscuit or two. Happy reading, not that you haven't read everything else already.

I haven't blinked yet, and don't intend to, so brace yourselves I'm just warming up.

DfT Website

Transport

Safe and dependable transport is essential to UK society and the economy. The government is working to make rail, road, air and water transport more efficient and effective, keep them safe and secure, and reduce greenhouse gas and other emissions.

Hmmm, safe eh?

Isn't that what VOSA are supposed to help out with?

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport

 Stephen Hammond MP

Yes I know, but there's no contact details. He was the geezer on the How safe are Britain's roads programme.

Note to self.......if you google him you can get his details, but I'm stupid, I wouldn't think of that would I?

Security UPS style

This driver was so busy, he abandoned his van to go to goods in, which is behind a wall to my right.
He'd already been in there quite a while before I started the vid.
He's there more or less the same time every day and does the same thing.

So a message to Mr. Terrorist, I've still some uniform for you, I can let you know where the van is abandoned daily and I can throw in a UPS ID badge as well.

Or alternatively Mr DfT I can give you the details, and also show you another driver doing the same thing about 20 miles away. Unfortunately the vid shows too much detail of the van so can be identified. Can't have any UPS retribution against the drivers because they are overdespatching, can we?

UPS v Yorkshire Building Society

Not an advert that UPS could use

CIPD/PM daily today

Not sure why they would post this. They don't give a toss.

Mind you UPS ought to read this. Mediocre's too good for them

Mediocre managers risk undermining engagement, CIPD warns

‘David Brent’ style leaders not the only threat to organisations
Mediocre managers are just as damaging to employee engagement and well-being as more outlandish bosses, according to CIPD research.

Not taking responsibility for mistakes, passing on stress, panicking about deadlines and commanding rather than consulting staff were some of the worst attributes of bad managers identified by the institute’s latest report.

These characteristics were cited alongside some of the more obvious ‘David Brent’ style behaviours – such as inappropriate humour or favouritism – as ways in which managers undermined employee motivation and well-being.

The research, Managing for sustainable employee engagement: Developing a behavioural framework, pinpointed how managers should behave to get the best out of people.

The report highlighted how managers who were calm under pressure, invested time in getting to know staff as individuals and who discussed workers’ career development, were likely to benefit from higher levels of employee engagement and lower levels of stress and absence.

The study found that managers were more likely to motivate and retain their employees if they consulted people rather than simply told them what to do, took responsibility if things went wrong or mistakes were made, and asked after workers’ well-being.

The research was based on an analysis of responses from a survey of 500 employees and 120 managers, conducted by consultancy Affinity Health at Work.
Respondents submitted views on their immediate line manager, their level of engagement with their organisation and their own well-being.

Commenting on the findings, the CIPD’s head of public policy Ben Willmott said: “Most people will at some time in their working lives have been managed by a ‘David Brent’, whose use of inappropriate humour and favouritism highlights a lack of self-awareness and inability to manage people.

“However, our research shows that arguably it is the mediocre managers, who too often ‘fly under the radar’ in organisations, that are even more damaging to staff engagement over time and often inadvertently cause stress.

“In tough economic times, how people are managed on a day-to-day basis becomes even more critical for organisations that want to engage and get the most out of their workforce,” he added.

The CIPD has also published Managing for sustainable employee engagement: Guidance for employers and managers, which summarises the latest research and pulls out key tips to support organisations in achieving sustainable employee engagement.

Dewsbury farce continues

From a Dewsbury driver, posting on facebook

Yes, I think you are.

But who will do anything about it?

Obviously no-one in Dewsbury is bothered.

Which is why raising a grievance will be pointless. You will be raising your head above the parapet so that you can get it shot off......ask Nige. He refused to drive a defective van and look what happened to him shortly afterwards.

VOSA won't be interested.

Neither will HSE

How about DfT? An unsecure vehicle, potential for packages to be tampered with.

I have a question. Is the warehouse still full of fumes on a morning?

Updated IOC Update

Dear Mr. Whitehead,

For the next Olympic Games, as for London 2012, the IOC will manage the relationship with the Worldwide Partners and the relationship with the local Partners will be managed by the local committee, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee of the XXII Olympic Winter Games and XI Paralympic Winter Games. At this time UPS has not signed as a local Partner for any future Olympic Games.

Best regards,
Peter

Somewhat disappointing that it has taken over 3 months for you to say, not my problem.

Even more so that it was LOCOG that passed me on to you.

Surely there will be some imput from the IOC

UPS is not a sponsor of the IOC, it is a sponsor of LOCOG and of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

We therefore recommend you address any correspondence to the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Ltd. directly.
