Draconian Management, Unreasonable Expectations

Plant Engineering Maintenance (Former Employee)
 Laurel, MD

I worked at UPS full-time for more than a year
Pros – Excellent pay and even better benefits. The health insurance is unbeatable.
Cons – They are all for safety, that is, as long as it doesn't interfere with package movement. It was routine to be threatened or even written up or worse for violating a safey rule, unless of course the sort was shut down. In that case management turned a blind eye and even pushed you to go faster, faster, faster expecting you to do whatever it takes. If you followed all the rules you would get written up for dragging out the job, if you "did whatever it takes" you would get fired or written up if you were injured or damaged something. Management, especially mid level and upper level management could care less about the people. They consider the workforce disposable. If management was issued UPS approved whips, they would use them as often as possible.
Advice to Senior Management – People are one of your greatest assets. Start treating people with respect and dignity. There is no good reason to push people to the breaking point on a regular basis. Live by your own rules. Put away the whips.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
