VOSA and the Union don't seem concerned by this
All these drivers and I was expected to victimise just one
9th July 2011
Doesn’t account for drivers pulling their boards early and therefore needing to take a break before their scheduled 6 hours. Nor does it show drivers working whilst on tacho break.

No doubt the claim will be that the figures are wrong.
How is this so when we’ve only just had the time study in? Are we saying they are incompetent?
Whether the figures are right or wrong, we had to endure Rob Burrows battering us about, to quote Steve “the figures are the figures”
If Steve denies that I have spoken to him in the past about this, and that is a strong possibility, there are many drivers that have been to him to complain about being over-despatched.
If SPC is no longer important and in range drivers are supposed to be the goals, why do we have 20 drivers with over a 9 ½ hour planned day? (7th July) (17 on 16th June)
We changed start times but not stop counts, expecting drivers to make up the time. When a driver, who regularly has a 10+ hour planned day, complained. The statement was “he was taking the piss”. Since changed to “might be taking the piss”. Where is the piss taking in a 10 hour planned day? Especially as the driver scratches his run.

8th July 2011 – Conversation with Jane Secker. Tachograph infringement letters not being followed up. She believes they are in Steve’s drawer. The last time Dan & I complained about not getting the infringement letters, Steve committed to giving these to us on a daily basis. We have not been given any for a couple of months. We are still expected to follow up with “black folder” issues, why aren’t these being given to us? To hide the fact we are over-despatching drivers?
I have infringements on each of these reports. Why? That is the amount of work that I have been despatched with. Yesterday was the first time that I have had any sort of break whilst on road every day for the last two weeks. Yesterday I had 20 minutes after working for just over 9 ½ hours. We are obsessed by SPC, to cover the lack of available drivers. I spoke to Steve O’Donnell on Tuesday about this, or rather he wanted to talk to me first. He complained about the black folder not being used. I said that I was on Jez Peels run and being despatched at almost 100% and that I hadn’t time to deal with it. He said I should be able to find 10 minutes. I twice told him that if I had 10 minutes to spare then I would use it for a break. I also told him I hadn’t taken a break for two weeks. These comments appeared to be ignored.
Monday Jez Peel First time since before Christmas, when I did the run for 2 odd days
Tuesday Jez Peel
Wednesday Jez Peel
Thursday Pete O’Hara Probably one of the runs that I know best, but not a regular
Friday Pete O’Hara
Every single day this week I have had a planned day in excess of 9 ½ hours, I always get the phrase, you know this run, whatever run I’m on, irrespective of how recently I may have done the run and therefore had a refresher. I cannot remember whether GTS automatically adds in a lunch to the planned day, but there is also the possibility that there is an hour to add on to every day this week, (40 minutes for Friday). (It does add it in, it’s the over/under allowed that is affected)
There are few days in the 6 weeks where I haven’t scratched the run that I have been on. In fact my worst performance has been 67 over plan. Is this because I’m an exceptional driver? No! It is because I am, and have been for years, expected to cut corners. I am exceptional at cutting corners, but this is what we expect from our drivers as the norm.
I first raised these issues in June 2009**. What has happened? Nothing. My original investigation centred on reports that Oli Newton was taking his break in Ravensthorpe at the end of the day. On investigating this I found that Oli was actually taking his breaks correctly. As he was in a non-tacho vehicle he only needed to take a ½ hour break before 6 hours of working time. This, he was doing, then taking a further half an hour towards the end of the day. Having looked at this one driver, I then printed off a days timecards and analysed those. There were many drivers not taking their breaks correctly and I raised this at a Centre Planning Meeting. What action? We have increased Stops and made the drivers start later, merely compounding the issues.
*** Also an e-mail sent to centre staff re drivers being doubled and not taking breaks.
