England World Cup Post Mortem

A lot of critisisn has fallen on Wayne Rooney and his ability (or lack of it) to score goals in the World Cup finals. As he is in the squad and the team he must therefore be the best that we have.

So what is the answer?
Let's have a think about the alternatives.
Who could we replace him with?
Well we can rule out any other Liverpool, Man Utd or Southampton players as they are in the squad, except of couse that man Suarez & van Persie.
Who next?
Well we must look at Man City first, as champions, we could select errrrrrrrr
Dzeko
Aguero
Jovetic
Negredo

Ahhh, we've ruled out Liverpool, (Champions but for their superstar Gerrard) so what about Chelsea who finished 3rd?
Eto'o
Torres
Ba
& of course Sturridge wasn't good enough for Chelsea.

Seem to be getting into a bit of a theme here.

The Arse were 4th, so that gives us
Giroud
Podolski

Everton 5th
Lukaku
Oviedo
Pienaar
Kone
Jelevic

& Spurs 6th
Adebayor
Soldado
and, no wait, Jermaine Defoe

No, he's not good enough they flogged him to Toronto (How's he going to impress Roy?)

So that's down to 8th position and we've got Defoe as an alternative, OK there may be a couple more that I've forgotten about. Are there any other alternatives lower down the league? What about in the Championship?

The mighty premier league is doing nothing for England. Neither are the other divisions, they are littered with foreign players, even down into the conference.

Hang on, I've got it. All the best England players are plying their trade abroad.

Bingo, sorted

Except, that Defoe aside who is there. Who many England players have been good enough to play in Spain, Italy, Germany or France in the past 10 years?

What ever the reasons we do not develop enough good players.

Being the home of football doesn't guarantee success, we have, like the performance last night, become complacent.

Did it start with the non-competitive sports in schools programme?

The game in England needs a complete overhaul.

Let's be honest, it's not just football either.

Too many kids sitting glued to their games?
