UPS TREAT STAFF LIKE CRETINS !! Very interesting, sad how a blue chip company can treat their employees like cretins (which they certainly are not) a member of my family was recently sacked, due to the three strike accident rule!! through no fault of his own. We have to remember a 7.5 ton vehicle in country lanes would cause any problems/obstruction, no matter how well he was trained, he pleaded his case for a smaller van, but it fell on deaf ears with the management and nothing ever came of it, except he was sacked on the three strike accident rule!! Pathetic. He had been with the company for four years. Interesting though, how they have bought out TNT and the drivers there are on lower wages FACT ! (as my company receives parcels via TNT and I have asked the drivers about there terms and conditions of employment incl wages, cheeky I know, but hey, don't ask and you never get to know). I wait to see how many other good UPS drivers are sacked in favour of this buy out to SAVE UPS SALARY BILL. In my opinion this is why they are getting rid of the decent staff and especially the ones they would have to pay severance pay too in a redundancy situation !!!

And also,

Hello Mike,
I shall start by introducing myself,my name is Michael Spencer,up to the 11 of Oct this year I worked for ups for over 4 and a half years.I started my employment at Irlam and was there for about a year before being transferred to Deeside (against my wishes, but nevermind).Having been at Deeside up to my dismisal in Oct I have seen some nasty things happen and people get away with some naughty things too.But my position at the moment is the reason I am writing to you, as I feel as we have something in common in the fact that I want to take ups to a tribunal as you are! I have some points to put to you of which you have my permission to use if it helps in your cause. Having worked at Deeside for a spell I gained the Llandudno run on a regular basis, when i took over the run the stop count was around the 75 mark,it contained a postcode LL28 5 which was a little place called Mochdre which was easy enough to deliver to until you got away from the village into the hills and sticks in the rural areas of which I kept informing my management team at the time that it was increasingly difficult to deliver in because of the narrow roads which were mostly single track !
In the end I had 4 accidents in total within the space of 12 months!Basically ups did nothing to help me with the problem I arised over the single track roads because all but one of the 4 accidents were on a narrow road and they were only minor things like scrapes or broken wing mirrors, the vehicle I was driving was a updated p80 with the digital tacho fitted so it was quite scary in my opinion(some of the roads I had to go along were single track with over a 100ft drop on one side). In the end just before I was sacked my stop count was over 90 stops plus colls. Deeside is 45 to 60 mins to Llandudno, now take into account the 8 hour day fiasco thing what ups have implemented and my hours dinner of which we didn't get paid for,to get back to Deeside for 1700 hrs I would have had to average well over the 10 stops per hour which ups expect. This I believe added to my dismisal greatly as I had to park up behind the Victoria shopping centre put my tacho on break and go and deliver some stops on my break to try to catch up!Adding insult to injury which this fact I am going to tell you now is that I was constantly telling my pre load supervisors that I felt it was an unachievable workload and the reply I constantly got back was 'you have to take them out you will be ok you can do it' or 'we havnt got any help' or 'dont drop the shit'(the shit in my case being the drops that caused all the accidents). All this crap coming from a preload team that had 1 normal car license between the two of them! in essence people telling me how to do my job that havent even got a license to drive the vehicle I had to drive??????? Ups proffesionalism at its best?????
You have my permission to use any of the points above I have raised or my situation as a whole Mike, since being given the link to you website i've been gobsmacked by the way you have been treated,as you may know the names are all so familiar to me I do have a sense of how you feel if its any consolation to you! Good luck in your case against them Mike I do hope the best for you and you get the result you feel you deserve! If you can help me in anyway with advice towards my case it would be much appreciated.Take care and have a good Christmas :-)

My first question would be, Who did you tell that you were working through your Tacho break?

It wouldn't have been that Doctor Fowler by any chance? He of the, we can load what we want on you because you can stop out until 22.00.

You have 3 months from your dismissal to go to a tribunal, and there are other options as well. I would speak to a solicitor. I'll give you some info

  1. See if all the union members stick together then maybe the drivers & other employees will get somewhere with this company. Until employees start to stand up to the company they will always be treated like cretins. UPS are using the fact that the jobs market isn't strong at the moment and they are using this to their full advantage. Drivers complain to their shop stewards about the way they get treated but as soon as the going get ruff they shit em self's (losers)Stand up and be counted like i have done, until you drivers start doing this,,,shut up get in your van and go deliver your parcels at 10 stop per on road hour, don't take your break and stay out late as MR FOWLER says
