FAO Scott Davis

Hi Scott

It is no surprise to me that there has been no response at all from UPS.

The very least I would have expected was a “we are looking into the issues raised”

Well you still have a few days to respond before you also become complicit in my complaints. As there have been holidays over the last week I will extend my deadline to next Friday, as I didn’t specify whether it was working days or not, but there will be bullying issues for you to investigate as well.

From the daily CIPD e-mail

  • Poor managers need to look in the mirror if they want to get the best out of their people.
  • New research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has found that three quarters of employers report a lack of leadership and management skills and too many managers have an inflated opinion of their ability to manage people. In response, the CIPD is urging Government and employers to recognise that just a small increase in capability amongst the UK's eight million people managers would make a significant contribution to productivity and growth.
  • According to the CIPD's research, 72% of employers report a deficit of leadership and management skills*. However, the CIPD's quarterly Employee Outlook survey of 2,000 employees, released today, also suggests that one problem in tackling this skills deficit is that many managers don't know how bad they are at managing people.

From the comments in the CIPD e-mail I received, the perception I had was that the CIPD will be very disappointed if there is any adverse publicity regarding their organisation. Roger Mays, Lisa Bradshaw & Emma O’Toole have all been confirmed as members of CIPD and are all complicit in failing to uphold standards.

Bullying

Some excerpts from my notes. (Has anyone sent you my bullying survey that I completed when I was still at Dewsbury?) These are in chronological order.

Increase in SPC target from 72.7 to 77, irrespective of performances.
Scott Winfield complained about Rob Burrows being a bully.
DPSM – All freight to be loaded to vans
Snow means Steve O’Donnell can’t get to Dewsbury but vans still to be loaded as a normal working day. No allowances for bad weather. 78 SPC still expected in snow & ice. (Health & Safety issue as well) This continues for several days.
Late feeds yet instructions to load to max.
Rob Burrows says he only knows S & V card when he swats them up, but expects everyone else to know them.
Rob Burrows again questions the legitimacy of my appointments, not genuine. Wants a letter asking me to resign as supervisor (Later denied) 2 days later Company Medical agrees with my GP that work related stress is having an effect on me. Despite this being denied Dan Walton & Sharon Wilkinson have been told what was discussed, must be leaked by Steve or Rob, as it wasn’t me.
Mike Whitehead out on road with Gav Muldoon. Forced to take out full run, even though Gav is being trained on a new route.
Snow = late feed, load to max.
Steve O’Donnell says he is disillusioned by Rob’s bullying, Steve says he has let his standards slip.
Have to cancel parents evening due to amount of work that I was despatched with. Work 11 ½ hours without a break yet Steve says it was my choice to cancel.
Discuss Medical results and Doctors appointment with Steve (again later denied) Steve says Rob Burrows won’t be happy that it will be approx. 2 months before there could be any results from the change in medication.
Conversation with Steve O’Donnell re Lee Bentley – We’re bullying him. Nothing changes.
Dave Dwyer – Steve O’Donnell says that he can’t do anything about high & increased stop counts when they discussed working through Tachograph breaks (in a P80). If Steve can’t change anything, who can? Dave continues to drive through his breaks. Infringement sheets later destroyed by Steve O’Donnell.
Lee Herrington – “UPS batters drivers”
Blanked by someone who looked like Rob Burrows. Steve & Dan confirm Rob Burrows was at Dewsbury.
Steve O’Donnell at a CPM – We are bullied. My policy book reading on “respect” (aimed at Rob Burrows treatment of Centre Managers & Supervisors) invokes a 42 minute discussion on how badly we are treated.
Dave Dwyer stop count increased, even though he’s not taking breaks. Review this with Steve O’Donnell, he’s not bothered (No change there)
Mick Hagan re overloading. Missed packages for 2 days running. For the first time in 18 years he has missed and the management aren’t bothered. What happened to service, 202 missed in 4 days + 18 timed failures.
Jez Peel – Rob (Burrows) has never driven a P80, Bully tactics, do as I say, Steve (O’Donnell) expects drivers to work through their breaks. UPS Greed.
Steve O’Donnell describes his Managers as tool’s
Sent to Coventry by Rob Burrows, even when I’m running the Centre. Would rather speak to team leaders
Dennis Savage – UPS Managers are bully’s
Peter Stead – Rob (Burrows) is unprofessional. The workforce is being shit on.
Alan Presly – Rob Burrows is a knob head, admitted he can’t do the job (driving), he didn’t answer any questions.
Dennis Savage – Rob (Burrows) a bully
Scott Winfield – Rob (Burrows) can’t do the job.
Steve O’Donnell – Shayne Williams is a bully
Pete O’Hara – Bullying in UPS
Darren Rushworth – Drivers pressured into extra work
Andy Riley – UPS bullies.
Alan Presly – UPS bully
Steve Brook – UPS are pushing drivers to depression
Steve O’Donnell says Shayne Williams bullies Tim, Lee & Phil Temple (Still continuing)
Drivers meeting in which bullying is mentioned and written on the board by Steve O’Donnell.
Steve O’Donnell discusses Rob’s (Burrows) bullying again
Steve O’Donnell mentions Rob Burrows’ bullying at CPM again (Witnesses)
Shayne Williams re. Rob Burrows – talks to you like you are a piece of shit
Scott Winfield re Rob Burrows – I won’t be spoken to like that again.
Scott Winfield re Rob Burrows – Rob’s being an arsehole.
Steve O’Donnell re Rob Burrows – I’m not going to accept this continued bullying.
Steve O’Donnell – I’ve been bullied for 2 years.
Steve O’Donnell – says he understands the pressure on me in the past, relating it to the bullying that he is subjected to be Rob.
Rob Burrows transferred to a new job – Steve O’Donnell jubilant.
Dave Dwyer, on still driving through his breaks – UPS bully by over-despatching
Sean Hardy – Craig McIntosh is a first class bully.
Shayne Williams – Instructions to over despatch are from Steve (O’Donnell) & Craig (McIntosh)
Gavin Muldoon - Instructions to over despatch are from Steve (O’Donnell) & Craig (McIntosh)

Are there sufficient people named above to confirm that bullying takes place?
Do you think that I have made it all up, as suggested at my grievance hearing?
Am I a compulsive liar, as suggested at my grievance hearing?

Integrity

Steve O’Donnell – Richard Watts turned a blind eye to creative PTS times @ Manchester
Lee Herrington not fully fit has someone out with him, Graham Pearson the following day is not fully fit and sent home.
Jez Peel – No break taken when Steve O’Donnell was out on road with me when doing an accident follow-up
Alan Presly – Was hands once freight is out on road.
Henry Popek – Can only get round if I work through lunch, Steve authorizes this.
Jason Cook and Ian Blackburn not taking breaks. Auth. By Shayne Williams.
Steve O’Donnell – Richard Watts is a bully.
Mike Whitehead – Reports Shaynes comments of No Tacho, no break to Steve O’Donnell, no comment from Steve.

Aidy Holmes sent out on road in a P80, no S & V training.
Steve O’Donnell @ 16.30 to a driver you must stay out and deliver, no NDA’s

Some supervisors in the same Division still allowed Company phones. We are told to use our personal phones.
Accidents not reported (Including by safety Manager Steve Ruane)
Training rides cancelled for “productivity” rides. i.e. only done for area knowledge.
Training rides get extra work as a supervisor is out on road with driver. Should be lower to ensure time to discuss and review any issues arising.
E-mail from Steve O’Donnell despite him being on holiday. Actually sent by sent by Scott Winfield.
Steve O’Donnell questions Rob Burrows standards when only doing 16 stops in 4 hours when local to the Centre. More hypocrisy.
Scott Winfield states that Leeds CPM minutes for BQA audit are “Created”
What happened to all the drivers accident free days money?
Dan Walton re. Centreboards “we put them on road at Nottingham
S & V rides cancelled for days on road delivering
Steve O’Donnell re North Rode – Irregularities go on there, when talking about a new supervisor being transferred there.
I arrive back in UK (volcanic ash delay) to be told extra days will be unpaid or taken out of next years holidays (against policy) yet am expected to work 13 ½ hours that day without any overtime being paid, but that’s the norm, unpaid overtime. Also work Saturdays and Sundays without pay – Double Standards.
Simon Eyers accident with barriers not reported.
Craig McIntosh re. Dean Weir “I’m beginning to understand what you had to put up with”
Start times changed, but no change in plan stops, even though drivers are out later into busier traffic.
Steve O’Donnell, talking about BQA at North Rode – Discrepancies in the centre keying exceptions for timed failures (affects customer refunds) Says security knows that this is going on and Division managers ignore it. Richrd Watts is happy to turn a blind eye to it. (Where have I heard that before? Was it in my original grievance? I think it was, but Richard denied this, didn’t he.)
Lorraine Burke (re the Company) it gets worse & worse)
Scott Winfield re Carl McGuinness – we don’t do service anymore. NDA’s acceptable for SPC.

Colin Hinchliffe – Company was built on service not facts and figures.
Lee Herrington discusses Colin working through his breaks with Steve O’Donnell. Result – No change.
Neil Threadgold – UPS don’t listen, Corporate bullshit, Rob Burrows doesn’t listen.
Driver out on a DIAD that is in use by another driver on his lunch break.
Drivers told by Alec Simmonds to key missed as closed. Investigation into a Dewsbury driver miraculously stopped when this issue was raised.
Ahmed Patel – Honesty doesn’t get you anywhere, Steve (O’Donnell) hides away in his office, have to cut corners as a spare driver to get job done.
AM not despatched keyed as future deliveries
Send agains on Centre boards
Left –at’s on Centre boards
Info notice fails on Centre boards
Undeclared missed
Steve O’Donnell comments on grief from Rob Burrows @DPSM
Steve O’Donnell quotes wilful disregard for anyone not learning DOK. Wilful disregard is Rob Burrows deliberately not following S & V procedure. It’s my car I’ll park how I want, or Steve O’Donnell using his phone whilst driving in the yard.
Dan Walton – Rules have always been bent.
Henry Popek re Steve O’Donnell – Break every rule in the book, but be safe
Mark Burnard confirms integrity issues at Dewsbury in the past.
Lieu days for staff working 1 hour on a Saturday
Steve O’Donnell accuses a driver of taking the piss yet he has a planned day in excess of 10 hours and comes in around scratch.
Told to delete 46 missed from my DIAD
Packages delivered but still in building, missed disguised

There should be enough information here to show that there are integrity issues within the Company.
But, there should have been sufficient integrity issues raised, and proved, in my first grievance. This was backed by e-mail evidence.

If you feel that there is insufficient evidence here, then please let me know, there’s more where that came from.

You have information from my previous e-mails, if you need more to support the facts that I have given you, again, there’s more.

If you need copies of my 3 grievances or the response that I received, again let me know and I will send it.

The Integrity issues go right to the top in the UK. Is it the same in the USA, as I still haven’t received any contact from Compliance and Ethics?

The Tory’s in the UK are being urged to stand up for Tory values. Don’t UPS need to start calling for a return to their core principles?

Re.

UPS guidance notes to Managers

Company counselling, disciplinary, competency and grievance procedures

Issued 1/8/2006

8.2 Individual grievances

a)       Why weren’t the issued raised resolved by my Managers within 14 days
b)       Why didn’t Division Managers and HR resolve the issues that were raised within 14 days?
·         Why wasn’t I given the right to appeal? (Emma O’Toole’s letter can be supplied)
·         Why hasn’t grievance 2 been answered?
·         Why hasn’t grievance 3 been answered?
·         Why has there been no contact from UPS for over 3 months?
c)       Why would the decision of the appeal be final, if those involved would be shown to be complicit? Why would there be no further appeal?

8.3 Group Grievances

Why is Shayne Williams allowed to continuing his bullying despite a collective grievance submitted by both the drivers and the preload staff? I believe there were only 2 employees who didn’t add there names to the grievance.

Appendix – D1
Section A

Each of the following shall constitute gross misconduct for which an employee maybe summarily dismissed;

10 Abusive, objectionable or threatening behaviour towards employees, customers or suppliers.
16 Reckless disregard of safety precautions, procedures and regulations
17 Wilful failure to follow Company documentary procedures and regulations.
18 Conviction for a criminal offence or reasonable suspicion of the employee committing a criminal offence which renders the individual unsuitable for work or unacceptable to other employee or likely to bring the Company into disrepute.

I take it that these instructions are only meant for picking on the minions and that District, Country, Division and Centre Managers, along with HR are all exempt from the disciplinary procedure. Will this now extend to the CEO of UPS for failing to follow his own message?

If you want to split hairs about some of the points that I have raised today, being under the wrong headings then you will be missing the point.

Bullying is acceptable within UPS.
Integrity issues are rife within UPS.

Again I look forwards to your response
